Nerd Out: How to Lace Up Running Shoes?
I know this has to be the nerdiest thing ever but learning how to lace up running shoes can make a difference in your run. We have all been there in the middle of a fantastic run then you feel your laces flicking around your ankles. There is nothing more frustrating than having to stop halfway through a run to tie your laces up.
Everyone seems to halve their own method. However, we have a few that you may want to try.
The Double Knot
This is the classic knot we all start off with. This sucker can be a good one but it also can be a pain in the ass. There are those times we tighten them up way too much and we end up ripping a fingernail just to undo them. On the other hand, there is those time they just loosen up.
Tie and Tuck
After years of double knotting, I decided to give the "tie and tuck" a try. Surprisingly enough this has worked like magic since I introduced it. However, it can be a little inconvenient to do every time you tie up your shoe. A few added seconds to your triathlon transition. I like it for long runs.
Lace Lock
The Lace lock is a handy type of lace-up and has been said to prevent blistering and movement of the foot in the shoe. It's not complicated to perform but it is hard to explain how to tie in words. So we thought we would just add a video from YouTube about it.
Lace For Your Foot Shape
The way you knot your shoe is one thing but you can also lace up for the overall comfort of your foot. Everyone has a different shaped foot and at times the average way of lacing up can bother your run. For many, they think it's the make of the show that is throwing off their run when in fact it's the way they lace up and tie their footwear.
The site Run Repeat gives some great examples of how to lace for your foot. We are a little lazy so we thought we would add the link here. Meanwhile, check out some of their instructional How to Lace up Running Shoes videos to NERD out to.
