Does shaving your legs before a race speed you up?
This is a big debate amongst athletes. Is it worth the milliseconds to seconds a shave can earn you? While there are no real studies, there are a few that point out they do help for specific sports. Many athletes swear by it and always show cleanly shaven at the start line.
For me trimming has always been the answer, so I don't get an unexpected garden pop through my spandex tights. I have an Irish/Chinese background, so this is important for me. I was standing at a coffee shop in line for my after ride caffeine boost when low and behold I look down and to my surprise was the hair above my ding dong was poking through. All embarrassed since then I have always made sure my bottom half has always been neatly manscaped.
Athletes like the Celtic Aero Below saw significant time differences this season shaving.
Should I shave for the swim?
Yes, In fact, if you are that competitive with yourself then it's a no brainer to shave before the swim. One study from the American College of Sports Medicine found that Swimmers who swam 400 yards at full effort experienced an increase in stroke length and less vo2. There for made it a better overall swim.
If I Shave Before the Bike or Run Will I Become Faster
No study proves it. Some say you can earn 5 + seconds to you marathon time and maybe the same for the bike. Where shaving does come in handy is an injury. It can be a mess when trying to clean up a bloody situation with hair involved. So that alone is a good reason to shave...Isn't it?
Maybe a little trim does help

I have come to terms with the fact I've been walked in on while trimming by my kids but that humility is why we become parents anyway.
I like being groomed none the less. I hate getting hair annoying hair pulls when my kit yanks at my hair. It is more comfortable to be shaven.
