Triathlete - The Indestructible Kevin Nunn

Natural Born Hero and Triathlete Kevin Nunn

When I first met Superhero triathlete Kevin Nunn I was on the beach of Thetis lake for my first open water swim ever. I was busy contemplating getting in the water or just getting in the car and getting a coffee. Soon enough, Kevin and his friend Shannon were exiting the water laughing as if they were leaving a party. While I was dreading getting in they brought up conversation and were very encouraging. They said a few things that pumped me up and I began to feel confidant. Soon enough, I was swimming away from my fears.

Who are these people I asked myself? They genuinely were some of the best people I met. Not to mention that dude with the Platnum blond hair and that accent that totally reminded me of Billy Idol...WAIT! Was it Billy Idol?

None the less, Every time I ran into Kevin I felt high on energy. I could not ignore that his energy was contagious. I knew right away that Kevin was a natural-born Hero with no debate. Since then I had always wanted to share his story with others. He is selfless and is always there for a friend. This is our interview with triathlete and hero Kevin Nunn.

You are a Natural Born Hero. You’ve challenged yourself and raised money for some amazing local causes. For example, in 2011 ran from Duncan to Victoria (60km) in 7hr 19 min, rode with Cops for Cancer and so much more. Tell us a few of your favorite moments in these heroic adventures and what drives you as an athlete?

When I look back and remind myself of what has been accomplished like the 24hr Bike Ride non-stop, the 36hr Bike/Run non stop all around the UVIC Ring Road it makes me smile and proud

I think my fave fundraiser was pulling the Full-Size Mini Metro Car around UVIC for 21km, which was 11 laps of the Ring Road in just over 11hrs which raised over $30,000

It was for sure a test of strength, power and mental focus plus my Stubbornness lol.

When the going gets tough I remind myself of the time, effort, energy and commitment I have put into getting to the start line plus all the support I have had and that is the same attitude I use in all my races and training

When the going gets tough just say “you will not beat me” Be the Change, Believe anything is possible Kevin Nunn

What sparked your interest in triathlon and Ironman distance competition?

I have watched over the years amazing athletes test themselves and I wanted to see how far I could take my body past its normal limits. I was not a swimmer though so I thought it would never happen but in 2015 I got a coach and asked them to help me be a swimmer. I have put in the hard work required to succeed and now I am a 5 x Ironman Finisher and 6 x Ironman 70.3 Finisher

Do you have any races on the list for 2020, and any big goals to manifest there?

I am running the Vancouver Marathon on May 3rd and hope to break another sub 3:30.

Ironman Victoria 70.3 is next on May 31st and I am hoping to cross the finish line in and around 5:30hrs

The big race is Ironman Canada in Penticton and hoping for another PB

I will finish off the season by running the Victoria Marathon in October but there may be a few smaller races in between this busy season

Every triathlete is a nerd when it comes to training. What is your favorite gear to train with during your swim, bike, run, or rest & nutrition?

In the Swim, it is the Snorkel

On the Bike definitely my Power Meter Garmin Vector 3s and my Garmin Edge 1000

The Run is definitely my Garmin Fenix 5X Plus Watch

I Train with Tailwind Nutrition for my hydration

How can our readers follow your adventures in training and triathlon?

The Biggest Takeaway is Believe in yourself, you have what it takes to be the best you can be and only you can stop you doing the things you want to. Kevin Nunn
